UCGIS at the University of Wyoming
The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
(UCGIS) is a non-profit organization of universities and
other research institutions dedicated to advancing our understanding
of geographic processes and spatial relationships through improved
theory, methods, technology, and data. UCGIS's mission is three-fold:
- To serve as an effective, unified voice for the geographic
information science research community;
- To foster multidisciplinary research and education; and
- To promote the informed and responsible use of geographic
information science and geographic analysis for the benefit of
society.
UW Membership Profile
UCGIS is open to input from scientists and scholars in all disciplines
involved in geographic information science in member institutions.
Its immediate objectives include expanding and strengthening geographic
information science education, providing an organizational infrastructure
to foster collaborative interdisciplinary research and education
in geographic information science, and promoting the ethical use
of and access to geographic information for the benefit of society.
The University of Wyoming became one of 35 charter member institutions
to UCGIS in 1996.
UCGIS membership is open to all U.S. academic and research organizations
meeting established membership criteria.
