Spharagemon collare can be found throughout Wyoming in suitable
habitats. It prefers areas of loose or sandy soils at lower elevations.
It can be common on sand blowouts, sandhills, or sandy dry washes. Eggs
overwinter in the soil. Adults are present from mid July to early September.
This grasshopper is known to feed on many species of grasses. But because
its preferred habitat is limited and populations are rarely large, no damage
to rangeland is expected from this species.
