Dissosteira carolina, the Carolina grasshopper, is found throughout
Wyoming in areas disturbed by humans. It is common in farmyards, field
margins, roadsides, and vacant lots in towns. The yellow-edged black hindwing
is diagnostic in identifying this grasshopper. Eggs overwinter in the soil
and adults are present from mid July to September. It is a mixed feeder
on forbs and grasses, but because of its low densities and preferred habitat
it does little damage to rangeland forage.
