Frequently Asked Questions

Data Services
- Where do I download and save NAPP series data
(aerial photography)?
- Use the R tool on the
WyGISC Data Server.
- What is the date of the most recent aerial photography
that WyGISC has?
- The 2000 CIR photos are the most recent photos we
currently have.
- Do I need to be a student, staff, or faculty member at
the University of Wyoming to use WyGISC's data services?
- No. You can use any of the resources found on our
website. For downloading data you will need to register
with WyGISC but this is a simple process described when
you go to download your first data.
- Why am I having problems viewing color infrared aerial
photos in ArcView?
- Sandborn switched to MrSID generation 2 files when
taking these photos. If you upgrade to ArcView 3.3
you should be able to view them.
- Does WyGISC have copies of the CIR photos
in a format other than MrSID?
- Yes, we do have tiffs for the 2001 Color
Infra-Red photography. This data is quite large
in size so we do not serve them. We do provide
copies of these data at a nominal rate of
$10/DVD + $20/hr required to locate your
request. Additionally we charge you for shipping
cost. To avoid the $10/DVD charge many folks
just send us an external hard drive with return
postage. We then just bill you for the time
required to locate and copy the information. We
do not have tiff format data for the 1994 DOQQs.
You can also download the ExpressView
Browser Plugin from Lizardtech,
http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_options.php?page=viewers.
This viewer will give you the capability to view
MrSID files.

- How do I download CIR and DRG data from the
WyGISC Data Server?
- With the Data Server open, Select the R tool
(last tool on the right before help button) then
click on the map display in the location you
would like to obtain a CIR or DRG for. This will open a
new window with a list of raster data available
for that location including the CIR.

- The resolution on the data I downloaded
isn't right when it prints. How do I fix
it?
- In order to print a higher resolution map
you can use the export function in ArcGIS.
If you choose to export to a pdf format and use
a higher DPI setting (600).
- How do I register to download data?
- When you attempt to download data you will
be prompted for an e-mail address. If you
have not registered with WyGISC in the past you
will need to click on the register link on the
registration page and fill out the form.

pay for WyGISC courses?
-
No, payments made to WyGISC are not
passed through the Financial Aid office or the
University of Wyoming Accounts Receivable System.
- Are WyGISC courses credited?
- WyGISC short courses are not part of the University

they need to excel at their positions. However,
